Citizen's Emergency Preparedness Academy
Every spring the City of Aliso Viejo hosts a Citizen’s Emergency Preparedness Academy. This course teaches participants basic emergency and disaster preparedness skills, so they will be able to take care of themselves and their families and also be able to help others in the event of an emergency or in the hours and days following a community-wide disaster.
The Academy is sponsored by Doctor’s Ambulance and classes are presented by the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, Orange County Fire Authority, American Red Cross, Trauma Intervention Program and members of Doctor’s Ambulance staff.
Classes include an overview of the City’s emergency services agencies; first aid, CPR and defibrillator training; earthquake preparedness; fire safety and fire extinguishers; light search and rescue; disaster psychology and neighborhood watch. The course will culminate in a class exercise where participants can practice their skills in a simulated disaster scenario and then a graduation celebration will be held.
The course runs one night a week for eight weeks and is free of charge. The course is open to all adult residents of Aliso Viejo who are able to attend all classes, and class size is limited.
