Council recognizes softball teams, outstanding scholar

The City Council on August 5 recognized two Aliso Viejo Girls Softball teams that clinched two Southern California tournament titles this summer.

The 10U division, AV Elite, took home the championship title in the 2015 San Clemente All-Star Memorial Tournament. The team went on to qualify for both state and western national championships.

The 8U division, AV Blackout, was also recognized for an outstanding season that included the coveted championship title of the 2015 Carlsbad Seabreeze Tournament.

In another Council presentation, Aliso Niguel High School graduate Kelsea Cooper was feted for receiving the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) 2015 Scholarship Award. Kelsea is one of seven recipients across six counties to receive the SCAG award.  Kelsea, who also has the prestigious Girl Scout Gold Award, plans to attend American University in Washington D.C in the fall.

The City Council meets at 7 p.m. on the first and third Wednesday of the month at City Hall, 12 Journey.  Meetings are televised on Cox Communications Channel 851 and AT&T U-verse Channel 99.  They are also web-streamed live over the Internet and archived videos are available for viewing 24/7 at http://www.cityofalisoviejo.com.
