With a series of rain storms expected to saturate the area this week, the City of Aliso Viejo is reminding residents to take precautions now.
Sandbags can help protect properties from flooding and emergency erosion. The bags are available at Orange County Fire Authority Station 57 in Aliso Viejo at 57 Journey, with free sand to fill them available from Fire Station 22 in Laguna Woods at 24001 Paseo de Valencia.
To prepare your home for the rain and help prevent runoff, remember to clear debris from gutters, downspouts and low areas in yards or patios that could cause water back-ups. Prevent runoff pollution into streets and storm drains by collecting any trash or landscape clippings from your property into their designated disposal containers.
The City of Aliso Viejo proactively prepares for the rainy season each year by cleaning catch basins in September and again in January and February. The City also conducts regular street sweeping and patrols to keep debris from blocking drains and causing flooding. During rainy events, crews are on call 24/7 to respond to downed trees and flooding in town.
When it rains, remember to slow down your speeds and never drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the roadway.
