Aspiring pastry chefs who can whip up the tastiest pies are sought for the Aliso Viejo Community Association's (AVCA) "Homemade Apple Pie Baking Contest" at its July 4th celebration.
Contestants must enter the pie-baking challenge by June 25. Participants must live in the City of Aliso Viejo and/or be dues-paying AVCA members.
Pies will be judged on everything from presentation, appearance and freshness to originality of recipe, tastiness of the crust and texture and flavor of the filling.
AVCA's annual July 4th bash is from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Grand Park in the Aliso Viejo Town Center on Aliso Creek Road. It features live entertainment, bounce houses, face painting, carnival games, food for purchase and a spectacular fireworks show at dusk.
