The City of Aliso Viejo hosts a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Academy on an annual basis. This course teaches participants basic emergency and disaster preparedness skills to enable them to take care of themselves, their families, neighbors, and coworkers in the event of an emergency or in the hours and days following a community-wide disaster.
Classes include the following topics: disaster preparedness, fire safety and suppression, light search and rescue, medical operations, disaster psychology, and terrorism. The course culminates in a class exercise where participants will practice their skills in simulated scenarios. Presenters include representatives from Orange County Sheriff’s Department, Orange County Fire Authority, local Emergency Managers, and EMS professionals.
The course is free of charge and open to all adult residents of Aliso Viejo, or teens attending with parents, who are able to attend all classes, and class size is limited.
