William “Bill” Phillips, Mayor
Biography - 2008

During the City Council's reorganization on December 5, 2007, Bill Phillips was selected by his colleagues to serve as Mayor for 2008. In 2004, he served as the City's third Mayor since the Aliso Viejo's July 1, 2001 incorporation.

Bill Phillips works as an urban design consultant throughout Southern California serving both public and private sector clients. His area of expertise is in the preparation of large scale master/specific plans and urban redevelopment plans. He holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo and is a graduate of the Leadership Southern California Program.

Having lived in Aliso Viejo since 1989, Bill became very familiar with the community through his involvement with AVCA (Aliso Viejo Community Association) as a member for both the AVCA Planning Advisory Committee and the AVCA Parks and Recreation Committee. He also was an active member of the Aliso Viejo Cityhood Committee and was appointed to the Orange County Transit Advisory Committee for two years.

Having lived in Aliso Viejo since 1989, Bill became very familiar with the community through his involvement with AVCA (Aliso Viejo Community Association) as a member for both the AVCA Planning Advisory Committee and the AVCA Parks and Recreation Committee. He also was an active member of the Aliso Viejo Cityhood Committee and was appointed to the Orange County Transit Advisory Committee for two years.

Currently, Bill serves as President of the Board for the Saddleback Memorial Hospital Foundation. Bill's professional affiliations include the Urban Land Institute and the American Planning Association. His community activities also include participation as a board member for Saint Mary and All Angels School and as a past participant of the Disney G.O.A.L.S. Program.

Representing the City of Aliso Viejo, Bill serves as Director on the Laguna Canyon Foundation Board of Directors and is a member of the Coastal Greenbelt Authority. As Mayor, Bill serves on the Great Park Advisory Council for 2008.

Bill, along with his wife and their two children, enjoy participating in an array of activities and organizations that involves much of their family time together.
