Donald A. Garcia, Mayor Pro Tem
Biography – 2008
In December, 2007, Donald was elected by the City Council to serve as Mayor Pro Tem for 2008, which allows him to assume the duties of Mayor in the absence of Mayor Bill Phillips. Donald A. Garcia was appointed by the City Council on March 1, 2007. Prior to his appointment to the City Council, he served on the City's Development Review Committee (DRC).
Donald is a member in good standing with the California State Bar. He has past and/or current affiliations with several professional organizations, which include the Hispanic Bar Association, Orange County Trial Lawyers, the Orange County Bar Association and the Consumer Attorneys of California. Prior to becoming a lawyer, Donald held the position as Vice President of a leading arbitration and mediation company. He has been a practicing attorney for 11 years.
Donald's community involvement and emphasis for keeping a pulse on Aliso Viejo's affairs has grown throughout his 12 years in town. In 2000, he was appointed architectural chairman of his neighborhood subdivision. In 2002, he was appointed to the City's Development Review Committee (DRC) and served for three years.
Donald currently represents the City as a Board Member for the Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) and serves on the Coastal Greenbelt Authority and the Laguna Canyon Foundation.
Donald proudly served in the US Army 101st Airborne Division. He has been married for 13 years and has four children. During his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family and coaching his son's basketball team - a volunteer position Donald has embraced for the past five years.
